Why MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the Best Picture of 2015

mad max fury road title card

With the Academy Awards coming this Sunday, I thought it important to weigh in on why MAD MAX: FURY ROAD is the best picture of 2015.

Yes, it has wall-to-wall action and testosterone out the wazoo, but is that enough to make it the BEST film of the year? Does it justify its ranking above this year’s other heavyweight awards contenders like SPOTLIGHT, CAROL, BRIDGE OF SPIES, et al?

Review: Raymond Weil Maestro Swiss Automatic Watch 2847-STC-30001

raymond weil maestro swiss automatic watch face

If you live near a major city, you have likely seen Raymond Weil billboards advertising their luxury watches. It’s a highly respected brand, a few steps up from what most people would call “entry level” Swiss, while still qualifying as “affordable” – Raymond Weil has plenty of automatic watches you can find for under $500.

The Raymond Weil Maestro Swiss Automatic Watch showcases the brand’s timeless sense of style. It’s a good choice if you’re looking for a formal timepiece from a recognizable name – great for starting/joining conversations in meetings or mixers.

Review: Edox Les Vauberts Swiss Automatic Watch 83007-3-AIN

The Edox Les Vauberts Swiss Automatic Watch is currently making its way through my regular watch rotation. While it is a little too nice to be my everyday timepiece (for that I use my Seiko 5 Sports Auto), it is my go-to piece for dressing an outfit up for a meeting, presentation, or interview.

Boat Shoe Showdown: Sperry Top-siders vs. Sebago Docksides

Remember those Ralph Lauren boat shoes I wrote about a while back? They are cool and all, but as I said back then, fashion denim doesn’t exactly cut it if you need footwear sturdy enough for, you know, an actual boat.

The two most well-known examples of legitimate boat shoes are Sperry Top-siders and Sebago Docksides. Need help deciding which is best for you? Read our comparison here!

UPDATE (05/17/16): Just got some cool new Cooper boat shoes from Jack Erwin! Read the review here!

Review: Double Monk Strap Dress Shoes by Meermin Mallorca

Now that you know about the James Bond test, it’s time to talk about monk straps. I have these double monks from Meermin Mallorca.

Be honest – sometimes you don’t want to hassle with shoelaces. What do you do? One option is to wear loafers, like these from Beckett Simonon. OR… put on a pair of monk straps!

Review: Hamilton Khaki Aviation Swiss Automatic Watch H76565835

Looking for an entry into the world of Swiss watches? There’s the Tissot I reviewed a while back. There’s also Hamilton, a brand with proud American origins, having provided timekeeping devices for the American railroads during the rail expansion of the late 1800s, as well as for U.S. troops during World War II.

EDIT: Added new video review below!

Hamilton was eventually acquired by Swatch Group, and moved their manufacturing to Switzerland. Like Tissot, Hamilton is a reputable and well-known name in Swiss watches, yet won’t kill your wallet (too much). The brand is notably a favorite among filmmakers and can be seen during critical plot points in several movies, from MEN IN BLACK to BURIED to INTERSTELLAR, making it a popular household name in watchmaking.
