New Venture: Bakersfield Real Estate Investment

bakersfield real estate investment
4 bed / 1.75 bath, 2,113 sq ft. Built 1928.

PRAKTICALA is excited to announce its latest venture, a Bakersfield real estate investment property!

We picked up this property in downtown Bakersfield, CA, late last year. It had great bones and a fantastic floor plan, but was in serious need of updating and repairs. I decided it was the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for DIY projects and my jack-of-all-trades disposition.

Fast forward a few months, and the project is up and ready for sale!

The transformation is incredible. Check out more photos below!

John Doe Shoes Calfskin Garein Briefcase Review

john doe shoes garein calfskin briefcase review

In the contest between backpack and briefcase, you should choose the briefcase.

Although I recently reviewed John Doe Shoes’ very nice pair of Whisky Box Calf Bonucci Oxfords, I actually gave John Doe Shoes a shot last year with their calfskin Garein briefcase.

The photos from the website didn’t really give me an accurate idea of the product, but the promise of full-grain leather was too good for me to pass up. I took a chance and ordered one of the last units available. Fortunately, I wasn’t disappointed!

Why You Should Increase Your Credit Card Limits

increase your credit card limits
Not so fast, hotshot. How’s your credit??

Having excellent credit is essential for the budget-conscious layperson. Whether you’re buying a new car, applying for a home loan, or starting a new business, a fantastic credit score could mean the difference between landing your dream car/house/job and trudging home in defeat, empty-handed.

There are obvious ways to keep your credit high – paying bills on time, not maxing out credit cards, and so on. But there’s another lesser-known but simple way to boost your credit score, and it only takes a couple of minutes!

The Relaunch of the Terry Crews YouTube Channel

I’ve been working on the relaunch of the official Terry Crews YouTube channel lately, and it’s finally here. Really proud of the work so far, and there will be a lot of exciting content to come – motivation, fitness, family, behind the scenes, and more!

In our first video, Terry talks about the paralyzing effects of discouragement and self-pity, and how to counter them with an attitude of gratefulness.

Terry Crews is known as a movie and television star, fitness guru, motivational speaker, outspoken family man… the list goes on.

Terry is awesome. You know you want more of this guy. Watch our first video embedded above, and check out the channel and subscribe at!

Specialization is for Insects – Why You Should Be a Jack-of-All-Trades

“A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.”

– Robert A. Heinlein

There is a fantastic podcast from Tim Ferriss detailing the virtues of being a jack-of-all-trades, or a “generalist.”

There was a time when jacks-of-all-trades were considered invaluable. They could just as easily chop firewood and pitch a tent as they could do their own taxes or write a letter to a senator. They made life richer and more rewarding, for both themselves and others.

These days, however, being labeled a jack-of-all-trades is essentially the kiss of death, particularly in business. This, as the Bluth family puts it, is “a huge mistake.” But why?
