If you live near a major city, you have likely seen Raymond Weil billboards advertising their luxury watches. It’s a highly respected brand, a few steps up from what most people would call “entry level” Swiss, while still qualifying as “affordable” – Raymond Weil has plenty of automatic watches you can find for under $500.

The Raymond Weil Maestro Swiss Automatic Watch showcases the brand’s timeless sense of style. It’s a good choice if you’re looking for a formal timepiece from a recognizable name – great for starting/joining conversations in meetings or mixers.

The watch

The Raymond Weil Maestro Swiss Automatic Watch is available in several iterations; the case can be polished stainless steel, gold plated, or rose gold, with a variety of dial and strap colors. This model (2847-STC-30001) has a 41.5mm stainless case, a white dial with sunburst accent, and a black croc-patterned leather strap.

The hands are sharply defined, and the simple Roman numeral “I” tick marks indicate the hours for a uniform, symmetrical aesthetic. The date function is displayed at the 3 o’clock position, is easy to read, and is adjusted by pulling the crown out one stop; pulling it out two stops adjusts the time, and pushing it all the way back in restarts the movement.

The watch is wound automatically through natural arm motion, or manually by turning the crown clockwise when pushed all the way in.

The Maestro’s crystal is scratch-resistant sapphire, both on the dial and the caseback window, through which the automatic movement can be observed. The engravings are clear and impressive, and accent the interior detail.

Conclusion

The Raymond Weil Maestro Swiss Automatic Watch is a large, substantial timepiece suitable for formal meetings or events. The design is timeless and won’t go out of style, similar to another fantastic and affordable Swiss auto, the Tissot Le Locle I reviewed a while back (although Raymond Weil is probably a more prestigious name, if you care about that kind of thing).

For a lesser known (in the US), but equally classy watch, check out my Edox Les Vauberts review. If you’re looking for a more casual auto, see the Hamilton Khaki Aviation watch or my daily beater timepiece, the Seiko 5 Sport automatic.
